Marinduque – A heart shaped island province of the Philippines located in the MIMAROPA (MIndoro, MArinduque, ROmblon, PAlawan) region. It is famous for its beaches and also the Moriones Festival held during summer. It is an agricultural province primarily growing rice and coconuts and has six (6) municipalities.
Last April 2013, members of JD Pamana Foundation, Inc. visited the province, particularly Brgy. Tapuyan, Gasan, Marinduque. The hospitality of the residents welcomed the team.
JD Pamana in cooperation with Victory Christian Church wil lbe having its medical mission in Brgy. Tapuyan on June 2013, also the students of Tapuyan Elementary School wil lbe this year’s recipients of school supplies.
As the team visited the area, they noticed that many improvements could be made for the benefit of the residents of the community. Livelihood programs and repairs of school buildings among others.
Farming is the main source of income of most of the families while nito weaving is the common livelihood of the housewives of the barangay but the only problem is that there is very limited market to sell the products.
During the visit, the local residents prepared an event for the team. Being hospitable in nature, they prepared the putong or tubong which is a custom of welcoming guests and visitors. The honoree or honorees are seated and crowned with flowers while local women dance and sing for them. Other well wishers throw coins and flower petals for long life.
They also had the chance to be part of giving certificates to the elementary students.
JD Pamana Foundation will be holding some its projects for the year 2013 in Brgy. Tapuyan, Gasan, Marinduque that will help the residents.
